– Intro / Brief Overview
What’s up everybody and welcome to Magic For Beginners, my name is Keith and in today’s video we’re going to be looking at and reviewing ‘Duck Duck Gone’ from Discount Magic. This was a Blackpool 2025 magic release for Discount Magic and this was one of their fastest selling new releases to date!
– What Is The Routine/Trick?
So what is Duck Duck Gone? This is a chop cup routine which is based around ducks playing hide and seek which has the possibility to have built in audience interaction and comedy too. This is a fun and family friendly routine which all magicians can perform.
– How Much Does It Cost?
Let’s talk about pricing for this particular item. On the discount magic web site, there’s two different variations of the trick which you can purchase which is priced at £10 and £18 in total for the two separate products. The £10 one is the basic one which comes with the 3 rubber ducks and the £18 one is one which comes with the 3 rubber ducks and a basic aluminium chop cup. So if you don’t have a chop cup, this one would be the best for you but if you’re just after the ducks, then the cheaper one will do for you, which is the one that I got.
– Quick Performance
Before we head on further with the video, let’s see a quick performance showing one routine or presentation that you could do with this trick.
– What Do You Get With It?
Now you’ve seen the routine and had a little insight into the trick, let’s talk about what you get with Duck Duck Go. I can’t comment on the aluminium chop cup that you get with the higher priced trick, but from the looks of it, you’ll get the standard aluminium chop cup from the web site which is about 9cm or three and a half inches tall in total.
Within the box, you’ll get 3 specially produced rubber ducks. You get one regular duck, one chopped to work with a chop cup and one larger ‘final load’ rubber duck too. So it’s like a standard red ball routine but with rubber ducks.
You also get some paper with a QR code and a link on it which takes you to a YouTube video which is 2 minutes and 40 seconds video showing you what you receive in the package and how to peform the trick itself using the routine from Neil at Discount Magic. There’s also a full routine with instructions and photos on the paper that has the QR code too, so even without internet access, you can still learn this.
– Is It Easy To Perform and where can you perform it?
Let’s talk about difficulty and where this can be performed. If you know how to use a chop cup and can do an easy routine using these, then you can do the exact same with these rubber ducks. A complete beginner magician probably can’t perform this right away but with a little practice, you’ll be able to do this no problem at all. This can be performed anywhere you want to, but it has to be with a table or flat surface and of course with all chop cup routines this can be angle sensitive but depending on your magic skills, you can easily perform this for larger crowds.
I just wanted to jump into the video and thank you if you’ve got this far into the video and if you’re not subscribed, it would be amazing if you could subscribe to the channel as it would help it massively and help us grow the channel. But let’s get back to the video.
– Can You Inspect It?
Can you inspect it? I’d say that once the routine is done and the smaller ducks have done their hide and seek and disappeared to just leave the large duck and the chop cup, these are definitely be handed out for inspection easily and should have no issues with it at all. Before the trick you can always hand out the chop cup and smaller ‘none chopped’ duck for people to look at.
– Is It Well Made?
Is it well made? I’d say it is well made yeah. I can’t comment on the chop cup as I didn’t one with mine, as I already have one, but the ducks are great quality and will last you a long time when performing with them before you’ll need to replace them.
– Positives
Let’s discuss positives and I think this is a great little version of a chop cup routine which would be perfect for kids and performers who perform for them and families as you can go for the whole hide and seek element and really milk the “Where is the duck” element by saying he’s in the pocket but ends up in the cup and saying he’s in the cup but he’s in the pocket etc. You can easily make up your own routine and script for this and perform it in the way you usually perform, so it’s quite easily adaptable for people to perform.
– Negatives
When it comes to negatives, I can’t really see any negatives at all, other than if you order the set and don’t order it with a chop cup and you don’t own one, as you’ll just have three ducks in your possession, which I suppose you could use them for other tricks, but not the way they were intended with a chop cup.
Hopefully this review has been a help and you’ve found it useful when searching for a review on this trick, or even if you’ve just watched this video as you didn’t know about the trick and were interested in what it was about, drop a comment in the video if you’re going to be purchasing this, or already have it, as I’d love to hear your thoughts on it too, but until next time, see ya!
