– Intro / Brief Overview
What’s up everybody and welcome to Magic For Beginners, my name is Keith and in today’s video we’re going to be looking at a magic app from a guy called Amin who is also known as Lentrica and this is Doodle Peek.
– What Is The Routine/Trick?
So what is Doodle Peek, I hear you say? This is an app which is a magic doodle app, which you can use to get the spectator to draw whatever they want, write some one’s name, or just about any other sort of information or picture they can put into the app, you can then get a peek of what they drew or wrote down, so you can use it and predict what they put down. You can do a peek on your phone when you get it back from the spectator and there’s also an option for a peek on an Apple Watch too.
– How Much Does It Cost?
How much does the app cost? It’s £9.99 on the Apple App Store and when you download it, there’s no hidden extras or anything else to pay. This is only available on the Apple IOS and not on android at the moment.
– Quick Performance
Here’s a quick performance to showcase what you can do with using the app, but again this is just used as a peek, so could be used for loads of things such as using the drawing or name as a one ahead principle.
– What Do You Get With It?
If you are to buy the app from the App Store, what is it that you get with it? You get the app on your phone and instead of being called Doodle Peek, it’s Doodle Mania, which is a bit more covert of a name I have to say and makes it not sound like a magic app.
The app itself is a very basic thing in that there’s a plain white screen that fills the screen and then at the bottom you have a panel which has an undo button, eraser, 5 colours, an option to change the line size and a trash can icon which is used to erase what’s been drawn on the screen. As it looks super clean and simple, there’s no suspicions arisen from it looking like anything other than a drawing app.
– Is It Easy To Perform and where can you perform it?
Is it easy to perform? Yes of course it is. You can casually open the app on your phone infront of a spectator and then demonstrate what to do but drawing an image and then saying to press the trash can to erase it and that’s all they need to do. They can then draw or write something again after this and hand the phone back to you and you can super easily peek the previous drawing before it was erased and you’re good to go.
You can then easily go down the routine of having them draw something and then erasing it and then drawing another image, symbol, place, name, location or anything at all which can be related and you can then say you’re going to use this symbol, name or wherever was drawn second to figure out the first drawing and you can easily do that and just fill in the patter yourself after that. I’ve been using the spectator to sign the blank page and using that to say it tells a lot about the person and what they’d draw and it’s been going ok for that. You also have the option for an Apple Watch peek too which is fantastic and has been updated to be used on older Apple Watches which is a bonus, as I couldn’t download it at first due to it being for a certain model onwards, but now it’s working fine.
– Can You Inspect It?
Can this be inspected? Yep, this can be inspected no problems at all because it just looks like a standard app and nothing magical about it and to get a peek you need to know how to get the peek and a lay person isn’t going to know how to do this, but I did discover a failsafe which can be used to hide the peek even more so, which can also be a negative, but I’ll talk about that later on. I’d be happy to hand my phone back to the spectator after the trick because they won’t find anything other than a basic doodle app.
– Is It Well Made?
Is it well made? It’s hard to say with an app, but I’ve not had any crashes or issues with the app loading I have to say, so as far as I know, it’s well made. The peek works easily and simple on the phone and works well on the Apple Watch too if you wear one and they both work well together.
– Positives
Let’s talk about some positives and I just love at how easy this is to use and how simple it is to get your peek and perform some absolutely amazing magic and mentalism. Like I said, this can be used as a basic peek on the app, or you can use this and take it to the next step and use this all as a one ahead principle by getting that peek of information to absolutely blow people’s minds. Even some sort of drawing duplication could be done with ease with this too.
– Negatives
Let’s talk about negatives and I have only one to be fair and it’s something I mentioned earlier in that when a spectator draws something or writes something down, they then press the trash can and it erases the drawing so you can draw something else. This works great, but if the spectator presses the trash can twice or more after the drawing, or makes a mistake on the second drawing and presses the trash can, your peek would be gone. So using that negative to hide a peek when handing out the phone to be inspected is a positive, but when it comes to potentially ruining your peek then it’s a negative. The workaround for this would be to be very specific on your wording and state they need to draw something and then press the trash can to erase it and then on the next drawing, if they make a mistake, use the undo button or the eraser to erase their mistake.
But this is a very small negative and I only discovered it when I was messing around with the app myself and it’s never happened during a performance of doing it, so I guess it’s me being a bit over cautious, but just a heads up for it to be aware of.
I hope you enjoyed this video and the review of this app, I’ve done a few apps on this channel in the past such as AnyWeb2 which still gets amazing reactions and I’m always happy to shoot more reviews on apps, so if that’s something you’re interested in then let me know in the comments for what apps you’d like to see and I’ll try and get it reviewed on the channel.
I’ve been recording a bunch of content for the channel and been trying to get some live performances to be slotted into the videos to show the magic in the real world, so hopefully I can get some more videos finished and released for you all, but until next time… see ya!
